Northern Public Affairs is proud to announce the release of our new digital issue focused on the right to free, prior and informed consent as espoused by the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The issue features pieces by AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde, ITK President Natan Obed, Chief Roger William of the Tsilhqot’in National Government, Romeo Saganash (MP for Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou), Dalee Sambo Dorough, Lorraine Land, Dr. Zacharias Kunuk, and Lloyd Lipsett, all of which highlight the importance of fully incorporating the right to free, prior and informed consent into Canadian law, policy, and practice as a basic human right.
Northern Public Affairs will provide ongoing coverage of the federal government’s approach to implementing the UN Declaration and its commitment to a renewed nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Keep up-to-date with our online coverage of the topic here.
We welcome commentary from interested contributors on the issue of free, prior and informed consent that furthers our mandate of creating space for informed policy debate and education on the topics most relevant to Northerners. See our Contributors page for more information.
